Katherine Watkins

Katherine Watkins, May 2011 Alumni
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Full University Honors

While at UNCG, Katherine was a tutor for Student Support Services. She was also active in the Honors College as an Ambassador, in Pi Sigma Alpha, and in Model United Nations.

She studied abroad at the University of Hull in England. Katherine is now pursuing her Master of Public Policy at the University of Maryland with a specialization in International Security and Economic Policy and a Graduate Certificate in Intelligence Analysis. In addition to her studies at UMD, Katherine is an intern with the Office of the Secretary for Defense.

When asked about the Lloyd International Honors College, Katherine says "the Honors College encouraged me to achieve my full potential at UNCG and was the best preparation for life after graduation."

Thomas Liles

Senior Honors Project: "The Politics of Turbo-folk"; Project Adviser: Dr. Gavin Douglas
Project Advisers: Dr. Carissa Showden and Dr. Dennis Leyden
Studied abroad at the Kazan Federal University, Kazan, Russia.
Thomas is a recipient of a Critical Language Scholarship for Russian. He completed a research internship with the European Centre for Minority Issues Caucasus, the Atlantic Council of the United States, and served as a research intern at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Thomas currently is a US Fulbright Fellow and an International Fellow at the Caucasus Research Resource Centers in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Full University Honors

Senior Honors Project: "Monsters and Men: The Changing Arthurian Narratives of Malory and Tennyson";
Project Adviser: Dr. Denise Baker
Studied abroad at Trinity College in Carmarthen, Wales
Gina recently received her Master of Arts in English Literature at Purdue University, and embarks on a PhD in Medieval Studies at Yale University in fall 2013, where she will continue her work on the representation of the Welsh in medieval English and French literature.
