As part of Honors orientation, all incoming students in the International Honors Program participate in a shared reading experience. The goals of the project are to provide a common intellectual experience for entering Honors students; to bring students, faculty, and members of Lloyd International Honors College and the UNCG community together for discussion and debate; and to promote cross-disciplinary thinking and inter-cultural dialogue across campus. Entering Honors students receive a copy of the book and resource materials during their SOAR [Spartan Orientation, Advising, and Registration] session, and read the book over the summer with the guidance of Honors faculty.
We are very pleased to announce that the Honors common reading for Fall 2012 is Little Princes: One Man's Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal by Conor Grennan. (NY: William Morrow Paperbacks, 2011). Students will first engage with the book at Honors Orientation on August 20, and then discuss the book's themes of service, travel, and home, over the course of the fall semester in Honors Colloquium.
