Welcome to the Lloyd International Honors College

First-Year Student Admissions

Criteria: Admission to The Honors College's International Honors Program is competitive and by application only. Successful applicants will generally have Math + Verbal SAT scores of at least 1200 (27 for the ACT) on average. In order to be eligible to apply, incoming freshmen applicants must have either a minimum 1200 Math + Verbal SAT score, a 27 ACT score, or a 3.8 high school GPA. Additional factors play an important part in the consideration process, however, and attention will be paid to evidence of leadership, service, co-curricular activities, and creative endeavors. This information can be provided in the resumé, which must be uploaded with the application. Applicants are encouraged to provide a detailed, well-supported resumé, as its thoughtful and thorough preparation will have a considerable impact on application consideration.

Application Process: Eligible applicants to UNCG (those that meet one of the required criteria described above) will be directed to the Honors supplementary application through their SpartanLink website. For the application to the International Honors Program to be considered complete and ready for review, the student must first have been accepted to The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Honors supplementary application consists of the following items:

  1. An essay (500 words)
A cornerstone of the International Honors Program in Lloyd International Honors College is the required International Experience, in which you live and study outside the United States in a culture different from your own. Please write a 500-word essay in which you tell the Honors College Admissions committee about how a semester of study abroad will contribute to your educational and intellectual growth at UNCG and to your long-term personal and professional goals. We encourage you to draw on books you've read, films you've seen, foods you've tasted, and people you've met as you craft your essay. How have those experiences contributed to your sense of what overseas travel and study might hold for you?
  2. A resumé. Applicants are encouraged to provide a detailed, well-supported resumé, as its thoughtful and thorough preparation will have a considerable impact on application consideration.

Admission is highly competitive and seats will be filled as applications arrive. Thus, earlier applications will have a distinct advantage and timely submission is encouraged. Application review will begin in January. Applicants to the UNCG Scholars Program will receive decision letters in late January. All other admissions decisions will be sent by U.S. Mail on March 15. Applications submitted after that date will be read on a space-available basis. The Honors Residence Hall at North Spencer will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see the Housing and Residence Life website for application procedures.
