Global Black Politics to Global Black Art: A Conversation (Let’s Learn!)

April 12, 2025 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Join a unique conversation with two scholars of the history of the African diaspora and its culture(s). Dr. Omar Ali, dean of Lloyd International Honors College at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG), and Dr. Leah Barlow, an African-American Studies professor located in the Liberal Studies Department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, will come together, through Let’s Learn!, to share the history of the African diaspora you did not learn. A forum for open thought, this is an opportunity to think about everything from maroon communities that resisted enslavement, to the role of politics in the music and art we consume.

Dr. Ali is a founder of Let’s Learn! and Dr. Barlow is a founder of Hillmantok University. Both are free online educational platforms open to all who want to learn—or teach.

This conversation is co-sponsored by the African American and African Diaspora Studies Program and the History Department at UNCG. Part of Let’s Learn! The World as Classroom. Global Honors students can earn 5 Global Honors experience points for attending!
