Gia M. Born (She/Hers/They/Them) is the Assistant Director of Honors Student Experience and Global Engagement in Lloyd International Honors College. In this role, Gia oversees the Honors Residential College (RC) Program, leads Honors programming and global engagement initiatives, advises Honors study abroad participants and Residential College students, and teaches Honors courses to support student success and engagement.
Gia earned a Master of Arts in Social Foundations and Community Education with a concentration in Teaching Democracy and Diversity and a certificate in Women and Gender Studies from Eastern Michigan University. Gia also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education with a concentration in Community Health Education from UNC Greensboro in 2021 and is an alumna of the International Honors Program. Before joining the Honors College, Gia worked professionally in residence life and as a public health researcher.
As a scholar, Gia is passionate about exploring Trans liberation, health disparities, mental health, and opioid abuse through a Black Trans-feminist approach. Gia’s research examines how transphobia, racism, and cissexism negatively affect health and societal outcomes for trans women.
