The Global Honors Program is a customizable, high-impact experience, liberal arts-based honors program intended for first-time applicants to UNCG, including traditional first-year students coming straight from high school, transfer students with no more than two semesters of experience at another college or university, early and middle college students applying to UNCG, and degree-seeking international students.

Eligibility
Admission to the Global Honors Program is competitive and requires an application through your UNCG Admissions Portal.
First-year applicants are eligible to apply if they meet at least ONE of the following requirements:
1280+ SAT (Math + Evidence-Based Reading & Writing)
26+ ACT composite score
3.8+ weighted high school GPA
Note: Standardized scores are optional but may be used to make the application more competitive for admissions.
We also consider leadership, service, extracurricular involvement, and creative work as part of a holistic admissions review.
The Application Process
First-Year & Early Transfer Students
Admission to Lloyd International Honors College (LIHC) is contingent upon admission to UNCG. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will review your submitted transcript(s) or verified test score(s) for admissions eligibility to the Honors College. If you meet the minimum eligibility requirements, you will receive an invitation link to apply to the Global Honors Program.

Transfer students with fewer than thirty (30) earned college credits are eligible to apply for the Global Honors program. Please email us at honorscollege@uncg.edu once your college transcripts have been received by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Students with more than thirty (30) earned college credits should check their eligibility for our Disciplinary Honors program.
Step 2: Review Timeline & Prepare Your Application Materials

The Global Honors application includes two (2) supplemental pieces of information that should be prepared in advance.
Essay (500 words max.)
Essay Tips & Submission Use this essay to tell us who you are—your goals, interests, and how you would contribute to the Honors community at UNCG. Be concise, thoughtful, creative, and most importantly, authentic.
Your essay should not exceed more than 500 words, be double-spaced, including your name and title to be uploaded as a properly formatted document.
Essay Question: Lloyd International Honors College values the idea that we are always in the process of becoming—shaped as we are by experiences, people, and global perspectives. Imagine it’s 2058 and you’re being interviewed as a leader in your field. How did your time in the Global Honors Program at UNC Greensboro—especially given its emphasis on global learning, interdisciplinary exploration, and cultural engagement — shape the person you’ve become?
Current Resume
Applicants are encouraged to include a detailed, well-supported current
resume to list the following (if applicable):
All aspects of work experience (including internships)
Extracurricular & co-curricular activities
Leadership roles
Community service/volunteering
Awards, accolades and honors
Other items (Special skills & interests)

3. Letters of Recommendation (optional):
UNCG Applicants may choose to include up to two (2) letters of recommendation to support their UNCG application submitted to Undergraduate Admissions. When composed by someone who knows an applicant well and can speak to their readiness for entering UNCG, letters of recommendation can provide helpful context about a student’s academic strengths, leadership, and/or community engagement.
While letters of recommendation are not required for the Honors College-specific application, the Honors College applications and scholarships committee is able to view any letters of recommendation submitted as part of an applicant’s UNCG application. These may be considered as part of a holistic assessment of an applicant’s potential to thrive in the Global Honors program at Lloyd International Honors College. Applicants are encouraged to submit letters of recommendation as part of their general UNCG application if they feel these will strengthen their application to UNCG, their degree program, and/or the Honors College.
Step 3: Complete Application to Honors College
Upon submitting your application to Undergraduate Admissions, if you meet minimum Honors College Admissions requirements (see ELIGIBILITY above), you will receive a special invite to access the Honors College application in your UNCG Admissions Portal.
Log into your UNCG Admissions Portal to view the “Global Honors or Residential Colleges” link.
Please choose the “Global Honors Application” track and review application information.
Upload your essay and current resume as prompted in the application.
Submit your application!
If you applied on or before December 1st, you will receive an admissions decision by January 31st.
If you apply after December 1st, you will receive an admissions decision within 2-3 weeks.
All Global Honors admissions decisions will be sent via email delivery.
Upon acceptance, please be sure to submit your Global Honors Reply Form through your Admissions Portal by the May 1st deadline for a guaranteed spot in the program.
GLOBAL HONORS ADMISSIONS PETITION
If you don’t meet the minimum eligibility criteria for the Global Honors program but feel you’re a strong fit, you may petition for special admissions consideration.
Email your petition request to Dr. Frances Bottenberg (f_botten@uncg.edu) by April 1 for fall admission consideration. .
