On Friday, October 1, Dr. Rebecca Muich and Dr. Omar Ali took students from their “Africans in the Greco-Roman World” Classics/AADS/Honors class to the Ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman galleries of the North Carolina Museum of Art. Students listened to Dr. Muich speak (photo) about the carry-overs from ancient Egypt to Greece in terms of statue poses and deities. Students were then tasked to find a piece that drew them in, do some research on the object, and then teach the class what they learned and what initially drew them to the object. From the West Building of the museum, the class walked over to the East Building, where they visited the contemporary African art galleries. See North Carolina Museum of Art galleries.
