Welcome to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Aubrey Paul and Georgia Garrison Lloyd International Honors College (LIHC). LIHC offers two programs for highly motivated undergraduates: the International Honors Program, which is for incoming freshmen as well as transfer and current students who are still immersed in general education studies, and the Disciplinary Honors Program, which is directed at current students who seek to deepen study in their declared major fields.
Through LIHC's International Honors Program, you enhance your general education studies with small, internationally focused courses taught by outstanding UNCG faculty members, study abroad, and study of a second language. Read more about eligibility requirements and benefits of the International Honors Program. Ready to apply? Complete the LIHC International Honors Program online application.
Learn how current Honors students are making the most of their UNCG undergraduate careers.
If you are a current UNCG student and have a 3.3 UNCG GPA, you may apply to LIHC's Disciplinary Honors Program. Working with professors in your major, you craft individualized courses and complete an Honors research or creative project during your senior year. Completing the Disciplinary Honors Program will give you a competitive edge as you apply to graduate or professional school or embark on a career. As a student in Disciplinary Honors, you are highly encouraged to participate in an International Experience. For further requirements, see Keep on Track: Disciplinary Honors.
Academic Think Tank: Refugee Resettlement in the Triad
Lloyd International Honors College Students Invited to Participate
During the 2012-2013 academic year a select group of UNCG students will join Dr. Alexandra Schultheis Moore, Dr. Stephen Sills, and local refugee resettlement agencies to create an innovative Think Tank engaging in significant scholarly and community engaged research with Bhutanese and Burmese refugees who have resettled in the Triad. Students will have the opportunity to explore a dynamic and complicated facet of our community through working directly with local resettlement experts and refugee populations. The Think Tank will meet once a week in the fall on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 3:15pm to study the problem and to learn about local service providers. This Think Tank will give students the opportunity to apply their insights in shaping the strategic plan for the new Immigrant and refugee referral and information center in Greensboro.
Admission to the Think Tank is by competitive selection, and all rising UNCG sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a 3.3 GPA or higher at the time of application are welcome to apply. The Think Tank is a year-long undertaking for which student participants will receive 3 credit hours of Honors credit during the spring semester. Additional cross-listed credits may be possible, if approved by those departments and programs. Please see Drs. Moore or Sills to discuss individual plan of study needs.
To obtain an application and more information about the program, please click this link: honorscollege.uncg.edu/thinktank/, or go to the website for MERGE: www.uncg.edu/aas/merge. Completed applications, including the essay and confidential letter of recommendation, must be submitted to the Honors College office in 205 Foust Building by April 1, 2012.
Be sure to check out the Lloyd International Honors College Calendar of Events.
Students who complete both the International Honors Program and the Disciplinary Honors Program are awarded Full University Honors for their sustained Honors work throughout their time as undergraduate students.
