Program Manager, South Spencer Residential College

Gia M. Born (She/Hers/They/Them) is a Program Manager in Lloyd International Honors College. Gia earned a Master of Arts in Social Foundations and Community Education with a concentration in Teaching Democracy and Diversity and a certificate in Women and Gender Studies from Eastern Michigan University. Furthermore, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education with a concentration in Community Health Education from UNC Greensboro in 2021. Additionally, Gia is an alumna of the International Honors program! Before this role, Gia worked professionally in residence life and as a public health researcher. 

In her role with the Honors College, Gia oversees the South Spencer Residential Collegeadvises Honors students, provides co-curricular programming for the Residential Colleges, teaches Honors courses, and supports the Disciplinary Honors program. 

As a scholar, Gia is passionate about exploring Trans liberation, health disparities, mental health, and opioid abuse by using a Black trans-feminist approach. Gia is particularly interested in using a Black trans-feminist model to explore how constructs of transphobia, racism, and cissexism, negativity affect health and societal outcomes for trans women.
