Matthew Reese (he/him/they/theirs) is a Program Manager for Lloyd International Honors College primarily assisting with admissions and scholarship support for the College, as well as overseeing student advising and programming within the historic Ashby Residential College. Prior to joining the Honors Ensemble, Matthew worked with several departments on UNCG’s campus, including the School of Music as an Admissions & Student Services Specialist, aiding with the admission and audition processes for all prospective music students. He was also a professional counselor with the Financial Aid Office serving on both the Food & Housing Insecurity Task Force and University Refund Appeals Committee.
In addition to enjoying helping students on campus, Matthew also performs as a professional opera singer and has garnered success at national and international classical vocal competitions. He received the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music and attended UNCG to receive his Master of Music degree. Currently, Matthew is in the final stages of completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the direction of Dr. Robert Bracey. His musical singing and research interests include Baroque opera seria, contemporaneous opera, and African American art song literature.
During his doctoral coursework, Matthew had the honor of premiering with the renowned New York City Opera. Additionally, he has also performed at opera houses in Austria and Germany as a guest resident artist. Matthew is an alum of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity and is currently a member of the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM).
